Su wasn't a house elf, she was a domestic fairy, but she worked among them as a leader in the kitchen and occasionally contributed to cleaning. She had been asked once if she felt insulted being asked to labor like the house elves to which she replied with confusion. Why would she find it bad? Too naive and still unaware of the sad lives of her fellow kitchen workers and cleaners, Su didn't realize she held the leader position among them not only because of her expertise but because a lowly house elf simply could not be placed in charge.
Those were realities she'd discover later.

That afternoon Su was singing merrily to herself as she floated up and down around the large painting that served as a doorway to Hogwart's kitchen. With a small duster perfect for one her size, she wiped away any cobwebs and dust in the entrance area with great care. Few students aside from Hufflepuffs came into the area below the Great Hall, but she couldn't have the doorway to her kitchen looking messy so she saw to it herself.
After sweeping up the dirt on the floor into a pile with the help of a couple brooms she summoned, she noticed there was far more hair in the pile than usual. Tuffs of light fur. Had one of the students' animals been here a lot lately?
